I simply adore this smoothie! It is pretty darned close to smoothie perfection I have to say. I mean, just look at it! (and those gorgeous pom-pom dalias too! So much gorgeousness). I adore so many things about this smoothie; how creamy it is, how the cacao nibs infuse it with such pure chocolatey-ness (please, someone invent a proper word for that!) and how they give it this gorgeous purple/brown speckled appearance, how it energises and nourishes me and how it tastes so utterly yummy!
The combination of chocolate and maca is pretty awesome in terms of energising and giving an almost euphoric feeling. You will definitely notice a peak in energy and mood after eating this – another reason why it makes a great breakfast and start to the day!
I like to freeze my bananas when I use them in smoothies, but as it’s getting cold outside you might not feel like doing that. I always have a warm drink first when I wake up and I think this is really important, especially if you are a cold, deficient person (weak, frail, pale complexion, feel the cold easily). The last thing your body wants you to do is shock it with a freezing smoothie! Same counts no matter what the season. But after you have had a warm drink, if you don’t feel like having something too cold then maybe just use an unfrozen banana – you will still get the coolness from the refrigerated almond milk which is really important – after all, no-one wants a warm smoothie! No matter how cold they are.
Because this recipe has so much nutrition in it, including from hemp seeds as well as tahini, banana and cacao-nibs, it’s actually really nutrient and energy dense so it’s nice and filling. it’s perfect if you have a busy morning ahead or pre/post a work-out. My boyfriend often finds that smoothies don’t properly fill him up for very long so I’m looking forward to trying this one on for size when he’s back from his travels.
This picture below literally makes my mouth water so much. I really can’t tell you how yummy this is! Right now I am however filled with a little disappointment because I have no bananas in the house to make this for breakfast. No bananas? How did that happen? It almost makes me want to cry. But then I remember the awesome muesli that i’ve been revelling in and it’s all okay. Here’s hoping you have some so you can taste this for yourself!
